Everything to Know Before You Begin

What Kind of Photo Works Best?

A sharp, naturally lit image with both eyes, ears and the full face visible is ideal. A clear phone photo is often enough. Extra photos can help show side markings, eye color or a favorite expression. Avoid screenshots with heavy compression, strong filters, motion blur, deep shadows or features hidden outside the frame. If the image will not translate well, we ask for another before carving.

Will I See a Design Preview?

Yes. You receive one initial design preview plus two complimentary revision rounds. Corrections to details clearly shown in your supplied photos do not use a revision round. If you choose not to approve after the included revisions, we stop the order and no balance is charged.

How Do the $49 Deposit and Remaining Balance Work?

The $49 deposit starts photo review and design work and is fully credited toward your portrait. The complete price is $229 for 6.5cm or $259 for 7.5cm. After you approve the design, we email a secure Shopify checkout link for the remaining $180 on 6.5cm or $210 on 7.5cm. The balance is not charged automatically or repeatedly. Handmaking begins after the balance is paid. Cancel within 24 hours for a full deposit refund if design work has not begun. Once design work begins, the deposit is generally non-refundable, except where applicable law requires otherwise, but remains fully credited toward your portrait. If we cannot create the portrait from your photos, the deposit is refunded in full.

How Long Will My Portrait Take?

Photo review: within 1 business day. Design preview: 2–3 business days. Revisions: 1–2 business days per round. After approval and balance payment, handcrafting takes approximately 1–2 weeks.

How Is It Made, and What Leather Is Used?

It is not printed or laser engraved. The portrait is built in dimensional leather relief, then carved and painted by hand. The carved portrait is made from SDS Argentine vegetable-tanned leather. The frame and backing use Italian LPA ALASKA wax-finished, naturally tumbled vegetable-tanned cowhide. Natural leather grain and small artisan variations are part of each one-of-a-kind piece.

Which Size Should I Choose?

Choose 6.5cm / 2.56in for a compact keepsake. Choose 7.5cm / 2.95in when you want more room for eye, fur and marking detail.

Can I Cancel or Return a Custom Portrait?

Cancel within 24 hours for a full deposit refund if design work has not begun. Once design work begins, the deposit is generally non-refundable but remains fully credited toward your portrait, except where applicable law requires otherwise. After design approval and the start of carving, ordinary cancellations and returns do not apply because the portrait is made specifically for you.
